Assistant Roaster - Full Time

The Roastery,  is seeking an experienced Assistant Coffee Roaster and passionate coffee professional to lead the daily roasting operation at our soon to open flagship location. The Roaster will work in conjunction with our Director of Coffee to oversee and facilitate our daily production needs.

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Roasting – Assisting with daily roasting activities, ensure quality and consistency of roast profiles and maintain cleanliness of production area

  • Quality Control – Monitor green coffee for stability and quality, maintain roast and blend standards; regular cupping and review with Director of Coffee; lead coffee cuppings and tastings with guests and team

  • Utilize roasting profile system accurately

  • Maintain coffee freshness

  • Maintenance – Ensure cleanliness and organization of roasting area; conduct routine cleaning and scheduled maintenance of all roasting and production equipment.

  • Packaging - Weighing, printing labels and packaging of roasted coffee and k-cups

  • Leadership – Maintain high standards of professionalism in communication with guests and team while representing The Roastery brand

  • Ordering/Inventory – Order and organize all green coffees and maintain green coffee inventory, packaging, labels & supplies; maintain roast, and maintenance logs

  • Check in coffees upon arrival, accurately complete administrative tasks

  • Barista - When not roasting, Roaster will assist café portion of the Roastery and assist with service via being on bar as barista.

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Passionate about all things coffee

  • 2+ years’ experience with coffee roasting machinery by manually maintaining proper temperature adjusting controls properly

  • Ability to create roast profiles and dedication to ongoing skill development

  • Advanced sensory evaluation and cupping abilities

  • Good organizational skills, problem solving ability and intuitive resourcefulness

  • Strong initiative, leadership skills, ability to self-manage while remaining open to constructive feedback and able to work in a small team environment

  • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours each work day in a warehouse environment

  • Able to move 150 pounds; Regular lifting of at least 50 lbs. and ability to perform repetitive range of motion activities

Experience:

  • Coffee Roasting: 2 years (Required)

  • Barista: 3 years (Preferred)
